White City Growth
White City lies at the geographic centre of the suburban region east of Regina. White City is also the leader of the region, in that it is not only the largest of the region’s small municipalities but also the wealthiest and most educated, according to the Statistics Canada 2006 Census data, with median household income roughly $100,000 - well above the Canadian average.
White City has roughly doubled in residences and population since 2006. According to the Town Administration, registered households rose from 355 in 2006 to an expected 674 in 2010 (based on permits and housing starts). White City borders on a championship golf course, offers elementary level schooling, excellent infrastructure and services, relatively low municipal taxes, and a forward-looking municipal council.
As a front page article in the Regina Leader Post on Saturday, February 27, 2010, was headlined: “East of Regina, it’s boom, boom, boom”.
According to that Leader Post article, White City and the urbanizing region surrounding it – including two other smaller towns and the country residences in the surrounding rural municipality – are expected to grow in population from currently around 8,000 to roughly 25,000-30,000 within 10 to 20 years. This would amount to nearly 1,000 new residences per year.
